G. Pruefer Professional Model Clarinet Circa Early 1900s
G. Pruefer Professional Model Clarinet Circa Early 1900s
The Pruefer Company of Providence, Rhode Island was one of the more reputable makers of clarinets in much of the twentieth century. It made a full line of clarinets from its beginning in 1906 until it was destroyed by fire in 1976. They made instruments in wood, hard rubber, and metal. This early professional model is all wood, seven rings with wrap-around register key. The keys appear to be silver alloy. No cracks, the mechanism is tight. We have overhauled this instrument with white leather and cork pads. It is stamped L.P. for standard low pitch. Comes with a Selmer HS ** mouthpiece and solid case. These Pruefer clarinets are larger bore instruments (we measure .590)! This makes these well-suited for jazz playing. A vintage quality American-made instrument from another era. $600 plus shipping.
Please note:
As professional repair technicians, our labor to completely overhaul a clarinet is approximately $250-$300. When you purchase one of our clarinets, it has been professionally overhauled with the mechanism tightened, new double skin pads, and new corks. While you can purchase as-is instruments for less, it is likely that you will have to invest in an overhaul either before playing them or shortly thereafter. We don’t cut corners with cheaper supplies or patchwork. When you compare our quality, you will understand why we don’t accept lower “make offers” on our instruments.
