The Pruefer Company of Providence, Rhode Island was one of the more reputable makers of clarinets in much of the twentieth century. It made a full line of clarinets from its beginning in 1906 until it was destroyed by fire in 1976. They made instruments in metal, hard rubber, and metal. This “Professional Model” # 09432 has a wooden body and hard rubber bell and barrel. We estimate that it was made in the early 1950s. It has been restored in our shop with new pads and corks. No cracks. The mechanism is tight. Raw nickel-silver key work. Comes with a Sumner professional hard rubber mouthpiece. These Pruefer clarinets are larger bore instruments (we measure .590)! This makes these well-suited for jazz playing. A vintage quality American-made instrument from another era. $425.00 plus shipping.

Please note:
As professional repair technicians, our labor to completely overhaul a clarinet is approximately $250-$300. When you purchase one of our clarinets, it has been professionally overhauled with the mechanism tightened, new double skin pads, and new corks. While you can purchase as-is instruments for less, it is likely that you will have to invest in an overhaul either after you have purchased them or shortly thereafter. We don’t cut corners with cheaper supplies or patchwork. When you compare our quality, you will understand why we don’t accept lower “make offers” on our instruments.
