H. Bettoney Silva-Bet Professional Metal Clarinet
Among metal clarinets, the H. Bettoney “Silva-Bet” is legendary. These fine old professional quality instruments were the first to achieve acceptance among professional clarinetists when they were introduced in 1925. We have lovingly restored this earlier one-piece model with all new pads and corks. The silver plating is original (one small plating wear spot on bell) and the mechanism is tight. Articulated C#/G#. No dents. The serial number is S1155. We estimate that this was made around 1925 or 1926. The tunable barrel is fully functional. We overhauled this instrument with skin pads and new corks. This is the clarinet that “started the metal clarinet” popularity craze in the 1920s and after playing it we understand why! It comes in a good case, original mouthpiece, ligature, and cap. It even has its original cork grease container! Please see the photographs. Own and enjoy playing a piece of history! $1200 plus shipping. This is one of the finest specimens of Silva Bets we have encountered. Please see the photos.
Please note:
As professional repair technicians, our labor to completely overhaul a clarinet is approximately $250-$300. When you purchase one of our clarinets, it has been professionally overhauled with the mechanism tightened, new double skin pads, and new corks. While you can purchase as-is instruments for less, it is likely that you will have to invest in an overhaul either before you play them or shortly thereafter. We don’t cut corners with cheaper supplies or patchwork. When you compare our quality, you will understand why we don’t accept lower “make offers” on our instruments.
